It’s All in the Details: Our Top Trend from the 2016 Architectural Digest Design Show

This past weekend the team took a field trip to Piers 92 & 94 in Manhattan to check out the industry’s newest trends at the annual Architectural Digest Design Show. The 400+ brands on display brought together some of the most beautifully crafted furnishings, art and home décor and cutting-edge finishings, and technology on the market today. We were inspired by so much of the show (for our clients’ projects, and even a few finds for our own homes) and most excited about the trend we saw from a few exhibitors: new applications for wood!

Craftsmanship and beautiful wood are two things we value, so we couldn’t wait to tell you about these finds! We can’t wait to find the perfect fit for them in an upcoming Detail Renovations project. What’s your wall covering or flooring fantasy? Tell us in the comments below.

Wood on Walls: Stikwood Plankprints Collection

It’s the jackpot of a historical renovation: tearing down old sheetrock to discover original wood planking or brick, perfectly aged yet preserved. For most, it’s not a reality but now the look of it can be with Stikwood’s new Plankprints Collection of their peel-and-stick real wood wall coverings. The brand unveiled seven new patterns at the show, which are meticulously printed on actual wooden planks through digital imaging using non-toxic ink that cures with light for a VOC-free process. So if the natural look and texture of wood and the beautiful prints of wallpaper or tile are two looks you wish could combine into one for your walls, ask us about them for your next project!

Flooring Craftsmanship: Archetypal Imaginary

Often we look up to take in a work of art hanging on a wall or painted on a ceiling, but the stunning creations of Archetypal will get you staring at the floor. Their artistry and craftsmanship are unparalleled, sustainably sourcing the finest wood and combining centuries old traditions with modern technologies. The stunning designs they customize bring their clients’ visions to life based on the space it will grace within their home.  We loved their hardwood collection for its range of looks from antique and classic their intricate parquet and border accents.

Wooden Elegance: KRIEST Lamps

On first glance, we didn’t believe these stunning lamps were made of wood! They so perfectly capture the natural beauty and details within the burl wood designer Kristin Barron selects and are so elegantly crafted and smooth, they look as if they’re hand-painted porcelain or blown glass!
